  • There have been a number of big changes that have happened to me over the last two weeks.

The first one is that I started working for my uncle in Harrisburg. He has a crew remodeling rental houses in the city. This is teaching me a trade that I had never done before so there is some learning to it which I enjoy. I had a great time working with my cousin Wesley for one day while he was back from Honduras. We cleaned out piles and piles of junk in one of the houses so the crew could start remodeling.

Picture is of the walls I put around the "bathroom" at the house we are working on.

The second major change is that I moved last week. The house at 339 E. Poplar St. is used for teachers during the school year so they needed it for the new teachers. There was a group from Virginia who gave the house a much needed cleaning Thursday and Friday of last week. I used a hand dolly and took all my books (well over 500) and other belongings (which number a lot less) up and across the street about 6 houses to Anthony Nolt’s house. He said I could rent the third floor so I drug everything up the 2 flights of stairs Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after work. I am very grateful for him letting me stay there.

Picture is of Anthony Nolt who I live with having a great time with his girlfriend before she leaves for IGO tomorrow.

Picture is of my new bedroom as I move into it.

The third change is that I won’t be taking a full semester load of classes this coming school year like I was hoping. With the investigation and sending in too late for some government school grants I decided it wouldn’t be a wise investment. I am taking a  three credit psychology course at Lancaster Bible College and a three credit math course at Harrisburg College’s York Campus. I am blessed that the job I am working with allows me to come in later two days a week so I can take these classes. These classes will definitely fill up my evenings studying.

  • I met James a traveling street preacher in a store in York two days ago and he invited me to go witnessing. I was excited about the invitation because I like seeing how others do evangelism. There was no doubt this was my most unusual time witnessing. Austin and I went to Harrisburg and held the signs that James gave us.

I was disappointed at times with some of the insults that were said to the crowd of lesbians by those in my group with the microphone. There are ways to do witnessing that don't insult people.

It was a unique experience for someone who never told other people they were sinning against God. There is no doubt these people at the parade are living in sin. From the way most these people dressed to the way they spoke it was obvious they were as Jesus would say from their "father the devil" (John 8:44). A few words I told the reporter "God loves these people but hates their sin".

Here are some great pictures in this video of James' family out street preaching at other events across the country. James, his wife, and two of his sons were the only ones at this event.

  • Well my life is taking many unique turns. I finished with working for the crop sprayer in Lancaster County 3 weeks ago. Between then and now I went on a one week canoe trip then had 3 different groups of guys sleep in my house. First Meadville/Shalom youth group came and I had a great time directing that and hanging out with my friends. After that there was 11 youth in York all day for summer bible school. Directing the daily work was also a great learning experience. East District youth group came and did an excellent job at fixing up the church properties during the end of last week. These next several weeks are about doing projects around the house that have been neglected like fixing and selling two of my three cars. Also I am looking at finding a house in York to rent for the next several months.
    Have a God filled day.

  •   I had a wonderful week at Faith Builders Winter Term last week, February 2-6. The only class I took was Church Planting which was taught by Allen Roth. That felt wonderful spending most my time and energy in one subject  which I had never done in all my years at Faith Builders. Allen didn’t have any big projects so I asked him if I could create my own big project which he was more than okay with me doing. I titled the project,  “What will it take to start a church in the Inner City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania?” and focused on exploratory work. The reason I chose it was because there were 3 of us heading back to York: Kelly Shenk, Kevin Shenk, and myself. Kelly wanted to visit Pittsburgh because she has a heart for that city, Kevin wanted to do street witnessing and I have a desire to do church planting and I also wanted to have a hands on for my class project. My brother, Daryn, graciously volunteered to drive us three Yorkites around Pittsburgh during the weekend then took us home to York. We got to Pittsburgh at 1:00 last Saturday then, drove around downtown, stopped in a neighborhood, talked with the people, went to a motel, met Maurice who I talked to for 2 hours, went to a church in the morning that we were invited to the previous day, and finally we met Maurice again who took us to his favorite eating place for lunch. (After 3 weeks I have become more like Apostle Paul at least in wanting to write long sentences.) From that exciting weekend I learned a lot about starting a church plant and how much work is involved. Below are pictures of the weekend.

Just our luck we found a church building for sale. Thing is it had almost 50 steps leading up to the front door. I know for one thing if we would have church in that building we would probably not have any overweight people in our congregation (or they wouldn't be overweight for long.)

This is the neighborhood we spent the majority of our focus. The Internet says this is the worst neighborhood in Pittsburgh. We didn't get shot at but one of the people Daryn and I were witnessing to said he had to go quickly because there was going to be a shooting. We saw a 20ish year old guy with a heavy coat on come toward us but he thankfully kept walking by us. Let me tell you something, Daryn and I didn't stay on that street corner.

Eating the whoppin' big PITTS-BURGHER Cheese Steak with our friend Maurice.

In downtown Pittsburgh the people were still on a high from the previous weekend. In the neighborhoods around downtown they were back to their usual way of life which looked bleak and pointless for some who we talked to. We came living a different dream, one more fulfilling and long lasting. But they would need to choose that and we pray that a small way we might have been a small step in someone's life toward that greater reality of Jesus Christ.

    God Bless all of you.
    His servant,

Here is another of my favorite songs:

    "He'll Keep You Through"
(Not sure who the author is but the Glick Family sings it)

    "If the passion for living seems gone, and the trials have taken your song;
There's an echo of the truth, and it's ringing in my heart from my youth.
He won't keep you from the trials - but He'll sure keep you through.

Chorus: He'll keep you through the fire when it becomes a furnace.
He'll keep you through the waters when they become a flood.
He did not make what he could not keep; He did not start what He can't complete.
What He does not keep you from, He'll keep you through.

He didn't keep Noah from the flood that came. He didn't keep Moses from 40 years of pain.
Now there was Daniel, Paul, and Silas... three Hebrew champions just to name a few.
What He did not keep them from, they knew that He would keep them through.

What He does not keep you from, He'll keep you through.

  • Here are the lyrics to one of my favorite songs right now. Life is difficult but God is good all the time.

"It's For My Good and For His Glory"
    Written by: Rebecca Peck

    Verse 1:
    I must admit, That I don't understand
How God would let me face, This painful circumstance
All I have to cling to, Is his word and his name
But that's enough, so I will trust...

    Chorus:
It's for my good and for his glory
This trial's not the end of the story
There's a bigger picture, God alone can see
Faith will take me through this sorrow
For I know, he holds tomorrow
And he assures me, It's for my good....And for his glory

    Verse 2:
And now I know, The Lord he's promised me
He'll work all things for good, Through tears I still believe
That his ways are higher, Than any of my own
And though my heart aches, He makes no mistakes!!

    Repeat Chorus

    Bridge:
Though I would not have chosen, the suff'ring that has come
I'm willing now to say: "Lord not my will but yours be done!"

About Me

  • I am a principal and administrator at an inner city school in York Pennsylvania. My job is to see that the teachers have the equipment to teach these children about God and the world He created. I also get to daily interact with the children and show them that Christianity is exciting.
